Hi!! My Dr. said I have binge eating (in the middle of the night-----half awake) and has decided to try Prozac to help in this. We did Ambien for a month to see if I would stay in bed but it didnt work. I am going crazy because I cant stop myself from getting up because it isnt a concious decision to get up--I just roll out of bed and do it. 3 Twinkies later.ughhh!!!!!!!! I cant stand this anymore--anyone else have this problem and have any of you ever been treated? I am considering tying myself to my husband to stop me from getting up, or chaining my refrigerator shut. Please help!

I think Prozac would be okay as long as its coupled with counseling. At the risk of sounding simplistic, could it be that you feel that you're not being "fed" in some area of your life. Seriously, the wife/mother job can be thankless and our family sometimes forget that we actually have needs ourselves. Do you have time for yourself? Or as Terri Hatcher says, are you getting the burnt toast on a daily basis. When we want to stop and nurture ourselves, our family objects and then we end up hearing "What am I going to do if I get hungry? Daddy's not as fun as you. Seriously Honey, what time are you coming home? You know I'm not as good with the kids as you are" You get the picture right? Nurture yourself. And don't be afraid of the Prozac. Just remember counseling girl, counseling.

I ballooned up to 300 pounds doing that. Put a little food by the bed, and when you wake up eat that, and do not go near the kitchen!Stay in the bed! You will get used to to this pattern, and it will replace the kitchen free-for-all. Start with a decent amount of food, enough so you won't go to the kitchen, and over time, cut back on the amount until it's just enough to keep you in bed. Good luck!

Prozac was originally marketed as a weight-loss drug; its effects are similar to Meridia, which you may have seen on TV; they both work in a similar fashion. Prozac isn't intended to help you sleep - it's intended in this case to help you feel less hungry. Good luck!

A strong sleeping pill would be better because if you're binge eating... ALL anti depressants cause substantial weight gain.

Be carefull hon! Doctors treat symptoms, not people!

Drugs and anti-depressants like Prozac make you gain weight. Think about that.
