NEVER! How would you like yours cut off?

why do you want to cut the tail off for . the breed standard is for a long tail. on puppies we dock tails at 3-4 days old after that we will not do it until they come in for neutering or spaying only then will we cut the tail off and even then it has to be a pretty darn good reason to do such a painful surgery.

A "pittbull" is not meant to have it`s tail docked. The tail is sometimes used for balance and there is no sane reason for doing it. I`ll go easy on ya because it is your first question.

Pitbulls don't usually have their tails docked. Dogs that have docked tails like Rottweilers are normally done well under 8 weeks of age. If your dog is older than that, you will be causing the dog severe pain and discomfort and a real possibility of infection, not to mention the cost involved.

What is the deal with pits having their tails cut anyway, is this another way to punish the breed?

1 minute, that's too old. why would you want to do that to your dog? are you one of those people who got a pitbull cause you think they 'look cool' or are scary looking? Don't cut his tail, don't cut the ears, don't cut anything unless you're getting it spayed or neutered.

its really bad to do it when their older . newborn is the best time for that. just like a male baby who gets circumcised. would you like to have that done to you now? unless your dog is having some issues with his tail, like he keeps whacking it on things so hard it splits and the vet suggests removing it i think you should just leave it alone.

you need to do it within the first six weeks.we have a red healer and we did it when she was born but they suggest the first six weeks if u do it after that u need to take it to the vet and have them do it.every breed of do we have had needed its tail docked so dont listen to all these people about abusing the dog.if you want it done than do it.i dont know about having a pitbulls tail done i dont know if they are suppose to or not.these people obviously havnt had dogs that need it.

I think when you're 90, your hands may too unsteady to work the scissors and that's too old to cut his tail. ;-)

They cut puppy's tails (docked) at only a few days old, any older would be abuse. Or have a vet knock him out & do it under anesthesia.
