As a person who is currently dealing with mental helath problems I can understand your question completely. Due to the many ways that a mental health problem or issue can effect you this question appears almost impossible to answer. I was feeling the same way at one point in time during my life as well.

Some of the best techniques that I learned through some of my therapy were:

1. Using a relaxation cd and following along with the narroator in my mind about what ever enviornment they were talking about.

2. I started exercising again. This was one of the biggest jump starts in my mental health progression. Granted it was one of the most challenging aspects of becomming motivated to do it I felt better every time I did so. I started out with a small walk each day at a regular time. Then moved on to riding my bike and finally a 3 day a week gym program.

3. If you can afford it I also suggest mental health counseling. This was also a key in my managing my illness.

4. Despite the negative view some people with in your circle of friends may have of mental illness or mental health problems I highly recomend you talk to the person you feel most close and comfortable with. Being able to be open and honest them is also a step to doing the same with yourself. If this person reacts negatively towards you and your concerns then that should tell you something about how they percieve your friendship. I did talk to my best friend, I have few close friends to begin with, and it was very helpful to get another opion from someone outside of my every day life.

I hope these small suggestions have given you some insight and will help you in your managment of your situtation.

Turn around your negative thoughts right away for moments that you had a wonderful time.

I use to get panic attacks and anxiety problems, went to a doctor and he recommend the following:

Anxiety is cause by your life style so...

1) Try get up always at the same time even on weekends. Make a routine everyday when you get up, like open your blinds and let the sun in your face, exercise!, drink water, etc...

2) DO NOT DRINK or Take any caffeine (if not possible, at least dont drink caffeine after 1pm)

3) Go to bed everyday at the same time, rub lavender oil in your neck and forehead.. listen to some calm music, dont watch any exciting TV shows or the news before going to bed, take your TV out of your room, use soft lights.. take a bath if you can or at least a hot shower

the point is to calm yourself before bed...

Drink some calms teas in the afternoon...

Try to excercise in the mornings instead than in the afternoons

You have no idea how my life has changed, I have been doing this for a year now, and I havent had one single panic attack

I know how you feel, good luck!

Xanax. I had one about an hour ago because of some awful stuff that's going on at work. I made a poor judgement call at work and got in trouble and I'm so embarrassed and stressed out that I can't sleep. I'm worrying myself to the point of being physically sick. I dread going to work on Monday and facing everything. The Xanax is helping a little.

Craig came up with this because he learned psychiatry and psychology DON'T WORK. He was an engineer and was horrified to learn that people are told to go to therapy, but routinely get no benefit at all from therapy.

The easy way is pills. But if you are up for the challenge. You must identify that you are in a moment of anxiety, remove yourself physically or mental (or best off both) and calm yourself down. I always think of cold water being poured first on my feet then slowly up my body. Find your happy place and calm down.

this is a common condition but one with stigma. Go to your doctor and tell him or her you are anxious . Anxiety is stress related and we all are stressed. If yoga or deep breathing and relaxation tapes do not help then medication is the next step.

For one you need to see a therapist or a psychiatrist to find out why you are so anxious. Then they will probably put you on meds. Good luck.
