It may cost about $60. dollars. They have to basically glue the metal rings back in place. This is actually really common especially after your mouth has made some dramatic progress. Get it done properly, the palate being expanded can be the most critical aspect of the braces & whether or not your teeth will stay straight after the braces come off.

It should be covered in the overall braces plan and should not cost extra, but it does need to be replaced as soon as possible before your expansion starts to close back up and you will have to wear it longer. Do not do it yourself - you could injure the roof of your mouth permanently !!

the dentist should fix the expander for free as it is his work and it came off ( broke) but he may charg for time you are sitting there if he is greedy

That has happened to me before. Don't sweat it! Just make a quick appointment to the orthodontist and they will fix it in a flash. :)

if it just came out by itself, tell your ortho and they will fix it for free.
