No, I would not recomend a Jack Russell Terrier as a guard dog. They aren't bred to be guard dogs, and that is setting your dog up for a very stressful life. Any dog will protect you because you are the leader of the pack, but you NEVER want a dog that is going to be aggressive to other people, or other dogs. Any dog that is agressive to one person could get irritated one day and become aggressive to you. It's not a safe idea to have a dog soley to be a guard dog. All a dog needs to do is give you a warning bark that someone is at the door or has come in your yard so that you can then take action. It's not the dog's job or responsibility to do anything beyond that and you shouldn't expect that from your dog. A Jack Russell Terrier will bark, but even if he bit, they aren't large dogs and won't scare away very many people. So, no I don't think a Jack Russell would make a good guard dog,

Terriers are naturally protective dogs, and they are very playful. The more interactive you are with your dog, and the more time you spend with it just playing with it and petting it will strengthen the bond between you. Your pet will also feed from the endergy you give off during certain situatiosn and the dog will learn when you are nervous, so he'll become nervous and will become more protective. Spend time with him, terriers are sweet and SO PLAYFUL. I have an American Rat Terrier, but my friend has a Jack Russel Terrier. Terriers are wondreful! You will enjoy having a terrier as a pet.

It really depends on the temperment of the dog...some Jack Russells are protective, and some aren't. The JR that we have is SO over-protective that she growls at my husband and me when we go in my son's room to wake him up in the morning. And she only does this for my son, which she has really bonded with. My parents breed JR's and only a few have ended up with this temperment ... so there is no telling what your dog will end up like.

I have a Jack Russel. 8 years old. Very old. Now for you to sleep, keep him in your room but not on the bed. He thinks he's treated like the king. Now for your fiance to sit,hug and kiss you without getting bitten or growled at when ever he growls, put him down and say No. Then tell ur fiance to get up and u put ur dog on the couch. And do the whole process again. Now be patient and don't give up. Also he thinks he's the king of the house. So don't buy him a lot of dog treats and buy everything he wants. Ok? BE PATIENT!

Jack Russels are busy bodies, and very aggressive. Its a dog with a very high activity level and gets worked up within milliseconds, it needs loads of stimulation. If you know what you're in for with a JR, get one, if not steer clear. It makes a fantastic companion with the right kind of owner, but the other side is also true - that way so many of them ends up in rescue shelters. Its not a lovey-dovey dog like a Labrador. Get yourself a dachshund. Low activity when over a year old - very sweet to its owner and mistrusts everyone else.

Many of the Jack Russells I have known were friendly to everyone. I do know of one that is very mean and would bite anyone it doesn't know. I hate to go over that house because the dog has been known to bite strangers. The best thing to do if you want it to be mean is to control it. If it bites someone, you may have to put it down.

jack russels are known to be pertective of there owners, most small dogs are, it seems to be inbreed in them, but you can help by making him realise you are the boss not him and he should start to know his place more, also he will be more tolarant of other people around you if less protective of you.
take look at this site. have to allow it if got a pop up blocker.

It depends. You can teach him, or you can get a different breed. I'd teach him. Dogs are very protective over their owners when it comes to certain things. Like when someones trying to hurt you, your dog will protect you for sure. Or if you live alone out in the country, you can teach him a new trick. "Attack"

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/byqI8

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

They are very protective. And even though they are small, they pack a mean punch when they bite, alot of force and very quick. So you need to make sure you train the dog extreamly well to tolorate visitors that come to your home. When I was still living at home the family dog was a Jack, he killed my cat with one shake (snapped his neck) simply because the cat was eating out of the dogs food dish. They are wonderful little companions when trained properly though.
