Buddhists are very much at peace with themselves, their surroundings, and other people. They do not have the need to try to convert others to a religion that talks about a myth of eternal damnation by a loving God, because that would be a hypocritical statement.

They love to meditate, and they are very kind people. I am pleased to know some of them as friends and co-workers, and they are very genuine and sincere.

There is something about their meditation that helps them to stay focused and not to become easily upset or enraged if someone does not share their point of view. They seem to be able to face life's adversities with a sense of calmness and inner peace.

Buddhism really makes you realize that life is what it is. We are all one when it comes to the universe. It makes no sense to judge other people, because you will only be judging yourself. Life is impermanent, so what is happening right now, will be in the past. Now is all that matters....

I've been studying Buddhism for over 8 years. I don't necessarily practice any rituals, but I do find that many of the teaching fall right in line with what I believe and make a lot of sense to me. I view Buddhism as more of a philosophy, rather then a religion. There are a lot of great books available, as well as resources on the web. Good luck!

I don't expect to make a 'best answer' for ya because I don't know much about buddhism, but I have been meditating for a few months and it has made me much happier and more motivated.

It is very strange that by learning to let go of my desires, I have become more motivated. I think it is because being happy and motivated are our natural state. Meditation helps us recognize and stop the thought processes that interfere with this.

I think buddhism is basically a religious interpretation of meditation. I think it will help you let go of obsessions such as materialism. So yes, it will simplify your life. However, some great Buddhists thought that Buddhism was too complicated and that using all those rules and practices was unnecessary, and even interfered with spiritual peace and wholeness. I'm in that camp.

I would definitely recommend daily meditation for anyone with addiction problems. It strengthens your sense of identity, and in time, makes you feel very in control of your life as you learn to observe your thoughts, gain insights, and are able to chose what you think and feel more aptly.

Best Wishes!

I think it can be a very good tool for simplifying life, but religion isn't just a tool to make things easier for you. Why not just simplify your life if you want to, and choose a religion because you think it will give your life meaning? You might find that that religion is Buddhism after all, and that's fine, but you don't choose a religion to clean out your closet for you.

That's another cult just like all other religions. If you want to simplify life, indulging in religions is not the way.

Yes. It teaches you that material possessions aren't very important, and you can get that great carefree feeling just from meditation. Beauty can be found in the clouds, and the Buddha's teaching are the only rules, if you can even call them rules.
