I don't belive in allowances... Why is it someone would pay there children to pick up the mess that they made? And I don't get paid to do the laundry or to wash the dishes to sweep the floor and make sure that the cats are feed. When i didn't want the cats to begin with...Everybody wants clean laundry and clean dishes to eat off from and a nice home to bring friends over but no body wants to help keep it that way... Or get paid to help keep it that way.... I am just going to say the 16 year old can get a job and the 10 year old can do work for a neighbor or have a lemanade stand something that will keep em busy and learning about earing money as well..

How about this for a general guideline?
Beginning at age 5, when the child is old enough to make purchases at a store (with supervision, of course), give him $5 a week.
Increase the amount by $1 for every year of life.
However, make SURE he saves some and uses some either for a church or charity offering.

Where I come from, your allowance is based on how much you help out around the house. It varies every week. Do more, get more!
