My daughter has a friend who is a Marine and he came home for leave. And she asked me why he insisted on paying for everything? Control? They've dated in the past and they have remained friends. Any ideas? serious answers only please!!!

She always offers to pay half or its my turn this time and he refuses! So she wouldn't go out with him to eat etc. because it didn't seem right for him to always pay. That's why she asked me this question.

he also has a new girlfriend so he's not wanting to get back with her. the new girlfriend is in another state. That's why she doesn't understand his behavior with wanting to pay for everything. She works and can afford it.

to begin with he is a marine and most guys in any kind of service find it the manly thing to do whether its a friend or someone more serious. i have had a lot of guy friends pay for things when we weren't together. to me it is appropriate. but if she doesn't like it she needs to say something to him.

I do not know why she is complaining for one thing. 2 I do not think it is control I think that he feelf because he is the man he should pay for the dates. If she has such a problem she should be talking to him. He may also be paying for everything because he can aand this might save her some cash

Chivarly. The Classic definition of the Gentlemen. A man always pays or attempts to pay for everything...it is a way of saying "I'm going to take care of you" for him.

It's not about control, it's about him being the man and expected to pay, if he is asking her out on dates.

I don't wanna sounds like a smartass, but maybe he's just being a gentleman, he might just wanna show her that he cares for her, and the way he knows how to do that is to pay for her. I wouldn't take it too serious...

Simply put, he wants to. However, has the daughter offered to pay or pay for half?

Could be control, but most likely just an ego thing where guys
are supposed to be strong, virile, and wealthy. That is why
I am a dummy instead.

He was raised with some traditional good-old-fashioned manners. Maybe he's trying to spoil her, too? Not a bad thing.

I think he is being a gentleman and showing he is generous and kind he might also still have feelings for her and be trying to buy her affection
