Naprosyn, as suggested above is a good stop gap until you can get in to the doc. You may wish to call the doctor's office every day, mid-morning and ask if they have had any cancellations, or get on a stand-by list in case they have any cancellations or no-shows.
My mom has RA and it can be devastatingly painful at times, but she is a good, compliant patient and has very good control. Some of the large lumps on her wrists have even gotten noticeably smaller. She is managed by her internal medicine doc, and does not see a rhematologist. Is there any reason the primary care doc will not at least start you on some sort of regimen for the current time?
Testing positive for RA does not necessarily mean you have the disease, however. You need to understand that you are going to have to continue to work, as most people who have the disease do. Until you are able to actually not move due to anatomic lesion, you will probably not qualify for disability.

I too was diagnosed one year ago with RA.The thing that has helped me a great deal is Excedrin Max. strength and Ibuprofen two each every 4 hours. My family practitioner
diagnosed me and I have all the symptoms.
So far we have cleared up my knees and jaw.
But presently it is seriously in my wrists and thumb joints. I also take vicodin as needed.
So far I haven't been to a Rheumatologist.
All my research tells me that its not curable.
And I have horrible side effects from many prescription drugs.
In December I was on Presizone, no pain but I was suicidal in 9 days. Previous to that I was on a prescription Ibuprofen that caused vomiting and diareah EVERY DAY.
So I should go to the specialist, but presently I am trying to self manage.
Good Luck I definately sympathize. I too have barely been able to work.
I have had bad reaction to wheat and uncooked mushrooms and beef, these cause a serious increase in the pain levels. It is also attacking my finger and toe nails. I have lost 5 this year.
Cold packs and sometimes heat will help also.
If yours is in your knee or knees I had excellent relief with a hinged knee brace. NOT ELASTIC. It was not cheap but it eliminated the swelling and pain in just a few days.
For my wrists, Walmart has wrist supports that are enormously helpful. When I wake in the morning and my wrists up to the elbows are very bad. I hold my arms up over my head and it reduces the pain a great deal.
Have you had the peculiar "bubbling or carbonated feeling in you blood stream?? It is so strange.
Good Luck!!

I think they have you there. Waiting for a MD appointment is not a good reason. If the Dr wrote a note saying that you can not work in the present condition and have to be on bed rest. My father in law swore by a tablespoon of concentrated black cherry juice. He lived to be 90. Said it helped gout and RA. I do a fruit drink of blue berries and cranberries, black grapes and strawberries. Take a glass of water put it in my blender then add frozen fruit to it. If I do it every day it makes me feel better. I have an auto immune disorder and i have severe muscle pain.

That's absolutely ridiculous to wait 8 weeks to see a rheumatologist. I'm shocked that you even got 1 day off from work. That's not an acceptable disability.

You should have insisted on getting in right away - and calling up that office every morning when they open to make them squeeze u in when there is a cancellation. If you have the Dr's note in writting stating that you are to remain off of work under his care - you're covered. 5 weeks is too long to wait for any appt - I don't care how specialized the Dr. is.

Only your Dr. in writing can keep you out of work. If your Dr. has submitted the paperwork saying you cannot work even light duty, then talk to your HR department again about applying for disability benefits and take a medical leave. If after the Dr. has told them you CANNOT work at ALL, and they still will not let you stay out of work call the local labor board to find out who best to talk to in your state.
here is the site for info on the medical leave act

No Shia scholar says "Ashhado ana Ali'an Waliu'llah" is part of the Adhan. They all say it is a Mustahab saying in the Adhan.
