Wikipedia defines a monologue as:

A speech made by one person speaking his or her thoughts aloud or directly addressing a reader, audience or character.

So it needs to be your personal experiences or thoughts. I'm sure you've got a million of 'em.

Good luck, and break a leg!

Try monologues in plays by David Ives, Neil Simon, Tom Stoppard, John Guare, Christopher Durang, Oscar Wilde, or William Congreve. Some are available in theatre texts. Try going to your local bookstore and thumbing through some monologue books- if you like one, you can copy it by hand rather than purchase the entire book! It'll help you learn it and save you some money. Also, consult other more experienced actors you may know- they'll have collected monologues over the years and may be able to suggest or give you a great idea!

Joyce Grenfell did some mind-blowing monologues, I fairly enjoyed the single featuring the little boy stated as George - i've got no longer heard it for years yet i think of it develop right into a nursery instructor speaking.

Go back into your life. Try to remember the times the tears were rolling down your face and your chest hurt because the scene in front of you was so hilarious. Write those times down and add to them what your thoughts were at the time. To be funny, you must believe that what you are relating is funny. When YOU believe it, they believe it. Relive and relate what you KNOW, what you laughed at and play out each part just as it happened. Your audiance wants to be able to put themselves into your act and nod their heads and say"Yup! I know exactly what he's talking about. Use your family, your most colorful, most interesting, probably pretty nutty relatives. We all have one or two.
