you have to separate the cream. then churn the cream until butter is formed. when you do this the liquid will separate from the solids. The solids become butter and the leftover liquid is buttermilk.

churn butter in a jar and then use the liquid left over. a quick way to do it especialyl if you are making bread, is to add some vinegar to the milk.
