I am conducting research to develop a cure for religious madness. Most people would be aware today that religion is a serious mental illness. It’s the inability to face the reality of life and the finality of death. Science suggests that religion is a mental illness and that religious people act irrationally because they are genetically predisposed to the “religious or spiritual” gene.

My private research studies indicate that religious people tend to be below average intelligence, and also have a tendency to be more violent than non-believers. This also seems to be supported by profiling various YA religious posters.

Hopefully scientists and psychiatrists will be able to develop a successful cure to help religious people re-enter the world of commonsense, logic and happiness, without the need to kill innocent men, women and children in the process.

I’d appreciate your comments and/or scientific input. Many thanks.

Good luck with that research of yours. I was just wondering what documentation you have showing that Science suggests anything of the sort with regard to religion being a mental illness and that religious people act irrationally because they are genetically predisposed to the "religious or spiritual" gene? Well, which one is it cuz they are two different things? If all the persons of a religious nature were of below average intelligence that would knock out a huge sector of society that contribute too much to intellectual studies, applications and fields so as to be a vast improbability. The sweeping generalization that religious people are more violent than non-believers is also based on what documentation and where do you get your test cases that you sample from in order to "support" this severely flawed theory?

Scientists and psychiatrists won't be able to develope too much of anything for anyone as they already haven't done too much of anything for anyone in the past and they certainly won't in the post-apocolyptic future..so good luck with that. The only thing you could possibly hope for is for some unseen force to arrive and perform some sort of mass evacuation of all Christians off the planet. I don't know how it will work for all other religions but that should take care of at least 10% of the world's religious population for ya. I'm sure you are including all religions in your impact study and not just Christians? Hmmm....? Love in Christ, ~J~

Having a brain surgery!

Look at the people who lost memory! People who lost the memory do not just lose character but also lose faith and belief.
If you can identify the region in the brain that controls the imagination such as faith and belief. You can use laser surgery to kill those cells. They will become agnostic.

After that, indoctrinize them with science and nature and educate them with disinterested rational explaination.

Have you seen "The island"?
If so, I felt that the "clone" people are those religious people, they believe in the island so deep!

It is hard to think of a more homogenous group than those believer in habitant, who all had perfect health, white-cloth, and island penetrating mind.

So, you are going to kill all the religious people just because you don’t agree with them, and by kill I mean “cure their madness”. You’re right it would take a really high IQ to come up with an idea like that. Will you force therapy and medication on them in a non violent way? What about the innocent religious women and children, are they subject to you Nazi Master race? How about we find a cure for something more practical, like fear and hate (something you are obviously suffering from).

Private research??? Describe private... are you the only one involved? and who did you interview? A family member?? I have done some of my own scientific research, and I have found that blonds really are of lower intelligence.. are you by chance blond?? Now see how stupid that sounded? That was a stupid question you asked. Just because there are people who have faith, hopes, dreams, and have God in their life to help them get through hard times, does not make them mentally ill. Show us your data and findings from your 'private' research. How many people did you research?? haha 12? And were they family members??

No, but to be fair my phone line or answering machine (one or the other) is on the fritz. The caller ID says "service center" or sometimes "line test" but when I pick up there is just a beeping noise. Could that be him? He should use e-mail, more reliable.

By the way, curious to know how you profiled YA posters to ascertain their violence level. Sounds like dangerous work.

No.

The book Why We Believe by Michael Shermer has a lot to say about this.

You are just as troubled as those who are fundamentalistic so-called "Christians". Do the words live, and let live mean anything to you?

The only thing you are accomplishing is making a complete *** of yourself. I have seen your rhetoric here before.

i think you're going to offend a lot of people with this question but THIS-

'My private research studies indicate that religious people tend to be below average intelligence'

is something i have thought for ages yet noone else seems to agree with me...! i would say BELOW, but i doubt there are many religious fanatics who also happen to be clever. it's education really that disproves religion, at least for me.
