In order to be a police officer in TX you have to be 21. But if youre interested in working in law enforcement until that time then you can work in corrections somewhere, either at the state, county or city level.
Good Luck, we need jailers and it gives you experience that you would be able to use when you go to the streets.

I am confused! Did you try to join at 17 knowing that the minimum age was 18.5 yrs?
And it is not only about age - it is about life experience and maturity, adaptability, an ability to learn, to talk to people, to deal with many different situations. Some succesful recruits get in at the age of 18.5 yrs as they demonstrate these qualities - and many more - during the various recruitment procedures.
If you seriously want to join up, I suggest you apply to become a Special Constable to get an idea of whether the job is ultimately for you. This will help with you the recruitment and selection process also.
Good luck. Oh, and stop rushing and get your grammar sorted out - the recruitment process involves tests for this - although I have to say they are incredibly easy!

Because you need maturity and life experience to be able to deal with the vast variety of jobs and problems you will be asked to solve in the course of the job.
Some 18yr olds may have this... but it is rare. If your fresh out of school and still living with parents, you wont have much life knowledge to draw on to help you in the job....
An example would be if you are called to a suicidal bloke, or a woman of domestic abuse, or an abused child.... will you know what to say to that person ? Would you have any words of advice or empathy to their situation?
Dont take it as a negative thing... take the advice of the police and go out and live life. A good thing to do would go travelling to gain life confidence and inituative. Or try voluntary charity work... work with disadvataged kids, etc. Youve got to show that you can hold your own and show inituative.
Good luck.

Welcome to the non-sensical world of the British Police service. Basically, they're telling you to get a life before you join up and lose it again. Try joining the Special Constabulary - it's the voluntary version of the regular force and you get all the same Police powers. You do it in your own time, and you can see if it's likely to be a job you'd like. I'm a Special and have been for nearly 12 years now... and I'd NEVER join up as a regular Police Officer. Don't do it mate. Have a look at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/police/recruitment/specials/ and also http://www.policespecials.co.uk Hope it helps.

It has to do with legal ages to do certain jobs. and Federal and State laws.
But jobs on police departments are very competitive, there are normally 100 or more applicants for any one opening.
So in general you will need a college degree and/or some military training also to even be considered

Maybe it's just a nice way of saying you aren't law enforcement material yet. Believe it or not, age DOES make a difference in the way we react to things.

If you took an entrance test, and passed the written portion, I would be extremely surprized. They probably were trying not to tell you the real reason... you're illiterate!!! They probably figure you are about 5 years retarded and will need that long to catch up with other people who applied themselves in school.

they say that to stop people they think cannot handle the job.
you need serious street smarts to make it out there, cause if you don't, you won't be respected.
you still have some valuable life lessons to learn in other words.

Some people are ready, some aren't. Based on your poor grammer and spelling my bet is that you are still not.
