In humans, the kidneys are located in the posterior part of the abdomen. There is one on each side of the spine; the right kidney sits just below the liver, the left below the diaphragm and adjacent to the spleen. Above each kidney is an adrenal gland (also called the suprarenal gland).

Biologically speaking - they're retroperitoneal. Meaning, they lie outside the body cavity. Where on your body? Lower middle back. About a hand's width above your hips.

they are located on either side of your vertebral column starting at level L3 lumbar 3vertebra , left side kidney is little below the level of right side because of the liver above , they are covered in fat...a primary retroperitoneal organ .

bend your elbows and feel the bottom of your rib cage, move your hands toward your back. that's where you hold when your lying in the fetal position crying from the pain of a Kidney infection.glad my nurse don't have a tailbone fetish.
