I haven't gotten the braces yet, but my ortho said I'd have to wear them for 28 months. Can this change? My teeth are straight already, so I'd just be getting braces to close the tiny gaps I have between a couple of my front teeth. I heard it depends on if you keep your monthly payments up...like it might be less/more months.

i had two orthodontist consultants. the first one recommended like 24 months?
and the second one gave me 18 months.
and i stuck with the second one.
if you dont want braces that long. get another orthodontists opinion.

Your monthly payments have nothing to do with it. If you default on your payments, your dentist will not yank the braces off of you, but you may be turned over to collection or have your credit ruined. 28 months sounds about right, as the process of straightening teeth or closing the gaps is a slow one. Wearing braces is never fun, but the end result will be worth the discomfort and inconvenience. My parents could never afford braces when I was growing up, with the result that I have a sizeable gap in my front teeth. I'm too old for braces now, but I am going to have some crowns and bridge work done, and one of my teeth removed so the spacing is right. I would have preferred to have worn braces in my youth to avoid all this expense and trouble now. So be patient. The time will go faster than you think, and your reward will be a more beautiful smile.

I worked one time for an Orthodontist. I seen patients who didn't have a severe case get them off in 6mths. or so. But they had to keep their appointments, don't eat sticky or chewy foods, brush a lot especially around the brackets, & MOST IMPORTANT WEAR YOUR RUBBER BANDS WHEN HE TELLS U 2! If ur gaps aren't that bad, then why pay so much on braces. I had the same problem as you, but as I got older the gaps closed in. Except for one, for that I paid $65. to have a little acrylic added to close in the gap.

well my teeth werent quite as straight so i had them on for 4 years haha. But really it all depends on wearing your rubberbands. WEAR THE RUBBERBANDS! that was my downfall, and thats why i had them on for so long! For my ortho payments werent an issue, they finished you until ur teeth were straight even if you missed some payments. if you had to, you paid for the braces after you got them off.

whatever the ortho says stays unless he sees change later on. but you can wear braces anywhere from a short amout of time to many years :(
