Today, I went to a funeral for a fallen soldier. The Patriot Guard Riders were there to block a Kansas-based group that calls itself, Westboro Baptist Church; out of Topeka, Kansas that protests military funerals. It was amazing, what the people of the Patriot Guard Riders did for this family that was only there to bury their son in honor and respect. I am still sick to my stomach that these ignorant people would even contact our newspaper down here saying that they were going to be there. Thank the Lord, they never showed up. I know I am violating the rules of yahoo answers for mention these people but if more people hear about them and their dispicable ways I don't care.
I wish to thank the Patriot Guard Riders from all over the United States for everyhting they do for our soldiers that have died for us.

Thank you everyone who has already commented. I realize freedom of speech, etc.. I just get very sick over the thought that they CAN put Sgt. Phillips name on their disgusting website.
I AM CONTACTING THE LOCAL CHAPTER OF THE 'PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS' THIS MORNING AND JOINING.
PLEASE EVERYONE AT LEAST LOOK AT THEIR WEB SITE.
Again thank you.

the major problem with the protesring liberals today is that they use the death of our heros to further their antiwar agenda. they should respect the privacy of the families and show the fallen soldiers their upmost appreciation for their efforts to insure freedom for all of us and even more respect for the fallen soldiers of the past. it sickens me too that they just dont understand that we have to fight to protect this country today, tomorrow, and forever against anyone who dares take this away from us and our children... thanks to you for appreciating them and may you and your families of future generations keep fighting for what we believe in.. god bless you.

There is only one group that does the protesting, it is the Wesboro Baptist Church. They are not protesting gay soldiers, they claim God is allowing our soldiers to die because the USA allows homosexuality and is a sinfull nation. They choose to protest at funerals because it gives them exposure. Many people consider them a cult.

Anyway, thank you for the kind words for the Patriot Guard Riders. You can visit us at www.patriotguard.org.

We will always be there to honor our fallen heroes.

Sheilding the families is our secondary mission. Honoring our soldiers, their families and their communities is our primary mission.

Visit us and read the forums and threads on past missions. Maybe you will decide you would like to participate. We welcome anyone who wishes to stand with us to show the families that America cares.

Sincerely,

Rick G.

I met a Patriot Guard Rider back in July. He's an Oklahoma state trooper who had pulled me over for going 77 in a 75. While he wrote me a warning, he told me about spending his weekends with the Patriot Guard Riders to counteract the despicable behavior of these folks from Kansas. I thanked him for doing this and for giving me only a warning.

God bless the Patriot Guard.

There was an interview with the spoke ..er woman for this group, about 4 months ago, her name escapes me at the moment. It was brought to light that 99% of the members of this group or cult are all members of ONE family. They have indeed done some disgusting "protests" and statements. It was also stated that even though they call themselves baptists the Baptists church has no association with this cult. They are a family of unpatriotic, psychotic, ignorant bastards.
Thank you for shining light on The Patriot Guard Raiders I have never heard of them...and thank god there is a group like them to counter the ignorance of those dumb***es

I think it's absolutely treasonist for that group to do what they do. All of our solders living and dead deserve the utmost respect from all of us. Those people piss me off so bad. They should all go live on an island somewhere with all the child molesters and do whatever else it is that they do. Which I guess isn't much if that church has nothing better to do than protest military funerals.

To hell with Yahoo. I'm glad you brought this up. I am a Christian and from Kansas. And Fred Phelps (head of the Westboro idiots) makes me almost embarassed to be both. I really think he must be mentally ill. His church consists of, mostly, his crazy family members.

I hope people in America realize they are not an example of Kansans or Christians. They are just hateful idiots.

Take care.

That Baptist church/cult showed up after the Santana School shooting here in 2001. They said that the shooting happened because here in Santee, CA we support gays. (they used some other word, I can't remember) They are a very sick group. I'm glad they didn't show up or that your town kept them away. Sorry about your loss. My son is a Marine. I worry, but then again, he almost got shot that day at Santana.
If curious, look up that group on the web. That will really show what wacko they are.

This came up on another question. There are actually two groups I've heard about. One that protests funerals as part of their opposition to the war (that might be who you are talking about) and another group that protests the funerals of gay soldiers, holding up signs saying that the dead soldier is going to hell and so is America. Both are reprehensible.

It is good to know that there are still people with class in this me me me country. I would probably hurt someone if they showed up to a funeral that I was at acting like that.

Here is a good example of when it is needed to limit free speech
