Depends on what they did. Mine got sat down on the couch alot when they were arguing and had to each say 10 nice things about each other before they could get up. Usually by the time they were done they were laughing so hard the argument was forgotten.

I have him earn points for minutes to play his PlayStation, computer, or watch TV. If he acts up then they get taken away. Sometimes I will give a free Saturday if he has been behaving and does all his extra reading. I never give in or let him ware me down. I also talk to him about what it means to be a good person and when he acts up I ask him does he want to be a good person and would a good person do what he did. I don't talk down to him and we have conversations all the time. I think that he knows me beyond just being mom and though he gets mad and of course wants to get his way he ultimately respects and loves me. I know him and he knows me and knows what I expect of him. It is never ending, but I believe it is worth all the work it takes.
One constantly giving hand and the other strong and steady.

When my 9 year old gets into trouble i go and get a book that he hasn't read and tell him to write out a whole page from that book only at his level of understanding and then when he has finished i mark his work then i tell him to tell me what was on that page of the book I also make sure his writing is neat and tidy. he hates the thought of doing it but at least i benefit from it not only am i still educating him but he knows it will take him longer to sit down and write a whole page from a book rather than misbehave and i haven't had any problems since.

What else do they treasure? Free time with friends, TV, sports, going to the Mall. Anything that they like, take it away one by one and they will soon get the picture. Then their free time can be spent doing extra chores around the house or volunteer work.

How about giving them chores to do.. or no TV, or no phone , or have them sit with their hand folded for a period of time. I would make them do things they hate... Or remove the things they love.. Its good to see parents looking to find ways to discipline their children.. good luck!
