Did you bother to find out what level he is and what convictions he has? A lot of the time its just someone who was busted for acting in a sexual manner around an unwilling female, which often ends up being from domestic disputes where the women accuses the man of molestation or rape.

So long as you avoid the area where this person lives, you are fine.

Generally these people have the same MOs over and over and never escalate into anything more.

If youre honestly concerned then stay friends with your neighbors and keep your doors locked when you're alone.

You say you're scared to be home alone. If you live with your parents tell them, Perhaps they can arrange for a trusted family member, or friend to stay in their absense. If you live alone and worried about being alone at night, have you thought about sharing with someone you trust and get along with?.

A student perhaps, that way you would have company and help with bills.Craigslist is a very good free site which lists free ads for rentals and those seeking to rent. Check references, if it works out you'll have company and extra cash to help with bills.

Do not be unduly worried,if he's a sex offender then he's unlikely to offend as he would be known to the police, and be under police surveilance , is monitored.

As a precautionary measure visit your community officer at your local police station and dicuss your fears. They will be better informed and can advise you on what is best to do to ensure your personal safety. Your local paper will know of his presence and let you know of how much of a risk he poses or not as the case may be. Perhaps he's a reformed character. But always ensure you lock your door and not walk alone late at night. Take a cab if you're going to be late or if you drive locks your doors.

Don't panic. Since he/she is apparently registered, they are probably being monitored. Just be aware of your surroundings and keep the doors locked and windows closed when you are home alone. Do not answer the door to strangers or give any indication that you are by yourself. If you have a neighbor that you trust, give them a heads up of the situation, so if anything looks suspicious around your house, they can call the cops. Call a friend over sometimes so you won't be so scared or have a list of people you can chat with on the phone, so you won't feel so alone. :)

Well the obvious answer is to keep your kids away from him (or her, why do we always assume it's a guy?), if you have any. I would say sleepovers are out of the question (sorry, couldn't resist).

Seriously, there's not a lot you can do. Just knowing they are there, so you can keep an eye on them, is a good start. Moving is not a practical solution, there are sex offenders everywhere, whether you know about them or not.

It might also help to learn exactly what type of sex offense they committed. If he's gay, for example, you might not have much to worry about if you are female (can't tell by your name or avatar). Don't live in fear of them.

Don't panic too much. It is kind of scarry, but remember it could be somebody who was wrongfully accused. And even if he is a real sex offender it doesn't mean that he's going to break into your house and rape you...maybe the last situation involved a date or something. Just try to enjoy your life. If you are home alone, but a big pair of men's shoes outside your front door, and make sure a man does your answering machine.

How old are you? Do you have any children? Are there any children that live close to you? Do you live close to a school or playground. I ask this because sex offenders are not allowed to live within so many miles of children. Since you live in a small town the odds are he is to close. Talk to someone in law enforcement and find out exactly how close he can live, good luck....I personally feel that all child molesters should all be put together on a deserted island, forced to fend for themselves.......

Me too!!! I live in small town and everything! Dont worry though, It may seem horrible, but just dont wear tight clothes or anything revealing when you walk by that house where he lives. REMEMBER tho! Always ACT like you could kick his *** if you wanted to. Act mean, if he ever sees you, and if he ever does grab you, never freak out and let him (afraid of being hurt) give it all you got and beat the crap out of him if you can. Always have pepper spray in your purse, or even a cell phone, just in case anything happens. But try not to think about it---they are probably more interested in there "computer" at home then going to attack more women. Especially if they have paid there time in jail. Keep Safe!!!

Before you do something crazy, find out what he did; you'd be surprised who gets classified as a sex offender. Not all of them are child molesters and violent rapists.

Also, remember you can get in trouble for harassing him. So before you do anything bad (like alot of people are trying to tell you to do) make sure you wouldn't mind going to jail over it.

If you don't feel safe, lock your doors and stay away from him.

Sad to tell you, but most people live around sex offenders (in the US). Check your police department website, lots if not most of them have a whole site dedicated to sex offenders, their charges, photos and where they live.
And keep your doors and windows locked, and be aware of your surroundings. Don't let the a$$ affect your life.
