I run a video store and a good percentage of my customers are Mexicans and many of them go out of their way to try to learn a little english from me.
I do not understand why there is so much anger towards immigrants. How much courage does it take to leave your home knowing that you may never see your family again,go to a country where you have no job and do not speak the language.
Mexicans have given this country much more than they have ever taken from us. Go to a national cemetery and read the names. They have died for this country in every major war in this century and are dieing in Irac even now
You should be ashamed of your unjustified anger and hate.

i disagree with cobacker, if that were the case we would have had Spanish on labels and signs long ago. this is a fairly recent thing, i mean i can remember when i was 12 there was no Spanish language on cans of soup, boxes of laundry soap. i think this is just an excuse to deter the real reason which is too many Spanish speaking people are to lazy to learn the English language

English is not the official language in America. The continent has at least 32 or 33 independent states, most of them speak in Spanish, in the North there's English, Brazil speaks Portuguese, and a few South American countries have local languages as official languages as well. It makes lots of sense to me to see signs in Spanish in American cities such as Santiago, Buenos Aires, Bogota, etc., but if Mexican expects Brazilians to have everything in Spanish say in Rio, then they're mistaken.

I don't think english is the official language. Americans speak "American English" which is different from British english. For some reason we don't have the authority to make "american english" the offical language. Our founding fathers used it to write the bill of rights and other nonimportant documents. As you see american english is useless. Just got my sample ballot in the mail and it is conviently confusing me as I have to read english and spanish to figure out my butterfly ballot. This is called progress I remind myself.

Because they falsely believe it's their right to demand such a thing. I'm even seeing signs where Spanish text is listed first and English below, instead of vice versa.

They should go back to the way it was: Use English, or go home!

America does not have an official language. The reason that governmental forms are also in Spanish in the US has nothing to do with Mexico. It is because the US "owns" Puerto Rico, a Spanish speaking island. ( "Those that forget history are forced to re-live it, I guess as they say").

I don't think the Mexicans had anything to do with it. It's called marketing to the hispanic market in a bank or commercial merchandizing scenario. Otherwise, it's the American way to do business - it's called routing the call to better serve you!

You have to be ignorant not to know it is the language of the US. America. Or just plain bickerers. Like brats who won't admit anything and keep whining. I see lots of them on the posts.
