I'm sure you mean Onkyo and while their receivers are top notch, I don't think they even make their own speakers...

If you buy Bose, you are thus a victim of their marketing monopoly.
Good speaker brands that come to mind are KEF, Athena, Energy, Boston Acoustics, Hsu Research, Definitive Technology, and Paradigm. These are a good start.
However, if you want to get into the expensive high-end spectrum, then look to Silverline Audio, B&W, ProAc, Magnepan, Martin Logan, and Dynaudio -just to name a few.
