I am trying to plan a trip to the Empire State Building. I want to time it just right (around sunset) so I can see NYC during the day and at night. I will be going the last week in December. Does anyone know what hour or approx time the sunsets then?

Im not looking at the almanac but that is about the shortest day of the year and it can often be cloudy and not bright, so I would want to get up there by about 3:40. Realize, you may not have a terrific sunsent unless it is a fairly clear day. You are talking about the busiest tourist week and the lines may be long- Wish I could give you happier info but you'll have a great time on the sidewalks. The movies make it perfect.

The last week in December happens to coincide with the shortest day (in terms of sunlight) during the year (usually Dec. 21).

Sunset will be around 4:45 pm or so.

Here, according to the Old Farmers almanac, sunset will be at 4:35 pm on Dec. 26.
