A customer recently presented this card while checking in. Wow! I am impressed. I've seen many others Black Amex but this one is one of a kind. It's really heavy, like a fridge magnet but hicker. At first, I thought this was a prank or something. I swiped it through the machine and it was approved.

Anyone knows anything about this special card? I am just curious...

It is the Onyx card for the ultra high roller. It's issued by invitation only to their wealthiest customers. It has no limit, live personalized customer service, concierge services, and lots more that normal people can't even think about having.

I may be wrong, but I understood the question as more pertaining to the weight of the card and not the card itself. They are switching the black card to a titanium card, which explains the wieght and the reason it feels like metal. I do not have one myself (not anywhere near it), but the first thought I had when I handled one (a customer) was that they are much thicker than usual cards and in smaller readers they might not swipe. Should be an interesting development for black card holders.

The black Amex card requires purchases of over $100,000 per year and is indeed reserved for wealthy cardmembers. There is probably a hefty fee that goes with the card. Really, it is just flash, another ego trip for the new rich.

As in Moby Dick, my friend, you have seen the Great White Whale, and it is good. You have seen the creme de la creme of credit cards. Lucky you.
