I live in the USA and want to send a CD & DVD to a family member who lives in Portugal but I had heard that you can't play them just anywhere. How will I know? Is there an indication on the case that tells you if it is playable overseas?

CD should be playable anywhere in the world. As for DVD they what is called Region Code, which govern which part of the world the DVD can be played. You can find which region code a DVD has in the box. The following is the description for each region code:

1 United States of America, Canada
2 Europe, including France, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Arabia, Japan and South Africa
3 Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Indonesia
4 Australia and New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America
5 India, Africa, Russia and former USSR countries
6 Peoples Republic of China

In addition, if you a Region-Free DVD player, you can play any of these DVD regardsless of what region code they have.

No the wii doesn't play DVD movies. The games are on DVD discs, but unless you use a third-party device (not recommended), you can't watch DVD movies. Same for CDs.

I have heard something like that too. They say that they use diferent systems to use that kind of things in europe than here.It is like that in the case of videogames so I guess it is the same with CDs and DVDs.
