Babies are all different, as are people in general. Bear with it, and just be there for the baby, holding him/her, and humming lightly :)

Do not give a newborn a cereal bottle. This is an old fashion idea. They are not ready for "solid" food until they are at least 4 months old, if not older. Their digestive systems are not mature enough yet to handle anything other than formula or breast milk. Introducing cereal/solids too soon may lead to allergies down the road.
Just try to get your baby on a schedule and not letting him/her sleep all day. It is all about resetting their sleep cycles. When a woman is pregnant they sleep whenever they want, which is almost all of the time. And they sleep most often during the day when the mother is moving around and "rocking" the baby to sleep. And it is awake when the expectant mother sits down to relax, usually at night. Good luck! Its not always as hard as it sounds and time flies. Enjoy them while they are teeny tiny and loved to be cuddled, as they grow up, they are not so easily cuddled.

Most newborns awake every few hours. Primarily for feeding. I've found that there is not a way to get a newborn to sleep through most of the night if the child did not have that sleeping pattern when born. If the baby is awake most of the nights and sleeps a lot in the day, the baby may have their nights and days mixed up. In that case I would try to keep the child awake in the daytime as much as they will tolerate. I that is not the case I would try waking when the baby is awake and sleeping when the newborn is awake. Most baby's sleep through most of the night around 6 months. Awaking maybe once or twice for a bottle and changing. Sleeping thur the night usually begins closer to one year.

Do NOT give a newborn cereal that is the stupidest thing you could ever do. You will screw up their systems because their tummies can't handle it. They're not old enough.
Here is what you do:
Set schedule, feed the baby everyday at the same time
Keep the baby up all day and play with baby.
At night, give the baby a bath.
Make sure the baby is changed and fed really good.
The baby should go down for the night.

A newborn will probably not sleep through most of the night, no matter what you do. He / she has to eat about every 3-4 hours!
To get him / her to sleep you can try rocking, humming, rubbing his back, etc. You can also (as he / she gets a little older) ask your pediatrician about giving a little bit of watery baby rice cereal to help hold him / her over for a little longer between feedings. It's maddening, I know, to have a fussy baby. Sleep deprivation is hard on everyone. But, believe it or not, the memories of those late nights and the frustrations you have will be sweet memories later on.... good luck!

A new born wont sleep through most of the night. You have to arrange things differently and your man will just have to be lees needy for 3 - 6 months. You need to rock the baby to sleep and feed it when *ever* it needs feed. Just do it gently and don't take too much out of yourself..... Oh, and there's stuff called Calpol, it knocks them out and is recomended by all health professionals in the UK. Ask your nurse, they *all* know about stuff like this.

It does not happen...unless you consider 3 hours most of the night. Forget it, it is something people have wondered about for years.
