Because they are both part of a component type speaker system in the front of your vehicle. Of course the door speaker will quit working when you disconnect the tweeter, you need to replace the tweeter so the system works properly.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. My left door speaker never worked. I had Infiniti speakers installed at Circuit City. The left speaker still didn't work. The technician did some troubleshooting and found a problem in the wiring in the door. Mine doesn't have the tweeter but the wiring was there for a tweeter anyway. The reason why the main speaker wouldn't work was due to a defect in the wiring going to the tweeter. After that part of the harness was repaired the speaker has worked ever since.

because they are on serial connection, maybe, try to short circuit the terminals but just a second, if the speaker sound is safe to let it short cicuted if don't maybe is another reason.
