Why would you want to? If you mean material things, than maybe only concentrate on what is necessary to live your life. Be more generous and share with those who have less. Do you mean physical desires? I have been celibate for several years now but that doesn't mean that my body doesn't remember the pleasure of a man making love to me. It just that I chose, for my own reasons, not to be with someone for awhile. You just make a decision and then stick to it.

i think we can't avoid desires, is it instinct?
i think if you are referring to bad desires, it's really difficult to shake it off. The more you try to extinguish it, the more it clings to our self.
I think the best we can do is not to shake it off but replace it with a desire that is GOOD.
I think we are like a container with murky water in it. The more we try to remove those foreign substances that make the water cloudy, the more it becomes murky. What best therefore we can do is not to stop pouring in clean water in that vessel until it becomes crystal clear.
I also think that we are like a ground with so many kinds of unwanted weeds. The more we try to remove the weeds, physically, chemically, the more we do damage to the soil . What best we can do is to plant a crop or any kind of lawn grass we like and cultivate it together in time removing the weeds that are growing. By far, the crops we planted will deprived the weeds of sunshine therefore it won't grow anymore. In the end, all that will be left are the crops or grasses we need.
Need and desire are two different meanings.

Don't even try. Desire makes us human.
Kabbalah says we are made of our desires. The real question is how does one go about harnessing our desires positively.
The more advanced we are the less prone we are to being overcome by negative desires.
I'll try and come back to give a better answer later.

If you mean desires, like in lust and things that are not of God just give your desires to him. Pray to God that he will remove those things from your spirit. Let God in your heart. Pray for deliverance. Call on the name of Jesus. God knows your heart so just let him in and will do a work within you. The Holy Spirit will come as a counselor and a comforter.

You could stick your head in the oven and turn on the gas.
If you think that it is possible to rid yourself of all desires, you are dreaming. It isn't going to happen. How about dealing with the ones you have and making good choices for yourself?

Desire is the root cause of expectations. We want to fulfill our desires because we want to be ahead of every one. It is our ego and by putting an end to vanity or egotism we can curb our desires.
The root cause of unhappiness or expectations is desire. If there is no ego or expectation then there will be no desire. just try this simple principle.
