No holes just naled on wood. Happend to my wood tree stand I bulit.

The holes could be from a few things, woodpecker, wood boreing beetles dig holes to implant their larve. Some wood wasps peel up pices of wood to make pulp to build their nests. Other then an inchomen who digs real tiny holes I can't think of another wasp that would dig a nail sized hole.

What kind of wood was it, was it up in the tree, for how long, or was it stored in a garrage?

The little bug peices are normal, you find them all over the place. Most bugs grow by shedding their outer skin or exoskeleton. Most likely they are unrelated to the holes.
