Depends what kind of red beer that you are takling about.

There are amber or red beers that are simply a style of beer. Think Killian's Irish Red, BJ's Red, or Red Tail Ale. Red beers are NOT porters. Porters are completely different.

There is also, as mentioned, a red beer where you mix tomato juice, or some similar derivative of it, in with the beer.

Yes, it's delicious. Makes even the cheapest beer tastes good. poor about 1/2 cup of tomato juice in a frosty mug and top with beer. Also good with Spicy V-8 juice or Bloody Mary Mix.

The only beer with a red colour that I know of is a Belgian beer called 'Kriek'. Kriek is the Flemish word for cherry and cherries are among the ingredients of this beer.
It tastes really nice!
