A Worthless Race

But you, draw near, you sons of a sorceress, adulterous, wanton race! Of whom do you make sport, at whom do you open wide your mouth, and put out your tongue? Are you not a rebellious children, a worthless race;" (Isaiah 57:3-4 NAB)

The Wicked Race

But judging them little by little thou gavest them a chance to repent, though thou wast not unaware that their origin was evil and their wickedness inborn, and that their way of thinking would never change. For they were an accursed race from the beginning, and it was not through fear of any one that thou didst leave them unpunished for their sins. (Wisdom 12:10-11 RSV)

Poverty is Evil

Wealth is good when there is no sin; but poverty is evil by the standards of the proud. (Sirach 13:23 NAB)

In context, the first reference is speaking of God's own people Israel because they kept falling back into the idolatry of the nations around them, while still thinking they were God's people. He used this language to try and get their attention, show them what they were really like.

The second reference is bringing out the point that humans have a sinful nature-meaning they naturally tend to be evil as a result of our first parents' sin. However God is still merciful and keeps giving opportunities for us to make good choices.

Thirdly, poverty is not evil, its a result of sin on the planet and is an opportunity for those who have to learn benevelance. But many people tend look down on their poorer neighbors.
