I need something really reliable and not petrol hungry. The Dog and Lemon Guide suggests Toyota Corolla of course and thats fine but what about the Honda Civic, Ford Lazer... etc..??

You usually can't go wrong with the Toyota Corolla, and by the way it is American as Apple Pie, they are built in the USA now.
