For the same reason a lot of non-Christans have Christian names. They have become common and they do not represent the saints so much as other people that have been named after them since.
Parents may have admired someone named Malik and chose to name them after him. Malik means 'sovereign' in Arabic and may also be related to Malak which means 'angel'. The fact that Malik is a name for Allah is minor to those who are not Muslim.
Jamal means 'handsome' in Arabic.
If you don't like your name you can always change it. Or just tell people to call you by a name that you do like.

Because Islam has become a popular alternative religion embraced by many black Americans, who've come to realize that maybe Christianity doesn't really reflect their heritage as Africans, and honors the beliefs of the slavers who brought them here.

The ironic thing is, some Muslim countries are the only places where slavery still exists.
You get a good name by being a good person, not by choosing a name from any particular ethnicity.
