Love is an action not a warm fuzzy feeling. Love is doing the dishes when you don't feel like it. Love is listening to someone tell a boring story. It obviously isn't boring to the teller and they will appreciate that you listened.
Jesus loved His enemies when He died on the cross. We were His enemies before we became Christians.

No actually, you're supposed to truly LOVE them not just say you love them. You make it a belief of your own, truly in your heart, to love them, through and through. If you believe it's a superficial lie, then you obviously don't love them and you're not doing as the phrase goes.

I dunno...even if you have to grit your your teeth when you say it, it's probably alot better than some of the alternatives...
But, you know, it is possible to "love your enemies"...IF you can learn to put yourself in their place for a bit.
Of course, that takes some maturity, and some people will never reach that level, so maybe, just for beginners, if we can get them to at least SAY they love their enemies, rather than blowing them up, it would be a start?

Legitimate love. We are called only to "act kindly" or "be nice" or "pretend to love." We are called to truly, honestly, and fully love our enemies. No faking allowed. Being superficial is not an option if you are going to follow the command.

I don't know if you're talking about the christian or buddhist philosophy, but in buddhism we believe that hate begets hate, and that to break this cycle there is nothing left to do but love those you once hated. It can't be a false feeling but true forgiveness. Only through compassion and respect do we gain anything. Buddha said it like this:
"Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love, this is the eternal rule"
GoldenTruthTeller- In case you didn't know, theravata buddhists like me don't worship anything but neither do we acknowledge a higher spiritual power, our journey is one of personal betterment. You, on the other hand, seem to find pleasure in belittling others. WWJD?
However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act upon them? Siddhartha Gautama Buddha

I do not love my enemies. I leave them alone. They do not in turn leave me alone...If someone needs to hear the words "I love you" such as an older person, think of it as if you were alone all the time and you just wanted to be acknowledged of your existence. Would you not want to hear the words of "I care about you" "I know life is lonely" We all do...

Love of the lips is not always love of the heart ...
re:GoldenTruthTeller .. what a fine representative of "love" you are .. now perhaps leave the Bhuddhist sage alone .. and go sharpen your little Christian claws elsewhere .. lol

There are different kinds of love, reserved for different things. Love for friends, love for family, love for a significant other, love for pets, love for people, love for living things.
