Most all of the major hotel chains will have rooms that are handicapped-accessible, including wheel-in showers. You just need to ask when you make your reservation. Reasonably priced? Well, reasonable for Manhattan is crazy-expensive most anywhere else. Expect that rooms will cost you around $250 per night or so, before taxes.

You might also benefit from visiting the Big Apple Greeter website, which has an accessibility program:

I live in New York, so I don't know much about the hotels here. That said, I *do* know something about the mass transit system. Most subway stations don't have elevators and/or have ones that don't work (though the problem won't be quite so bad at the major stations like 34th Street and 42nd Street). The busses will be much better in terms of accessibility, but many lines get just as crowded as the subways, and have more problems with things like traffic and bad weather.

All the buses are wheelchair accessible. As for the subways, there's always a chance that the stations' elevators will be out-of-service, so rely on buses and taxis.

Most busses nowadays have wheelchair access. Very few subway stations do. You'll have to call the hotels regarding how wheelchair accesible they are.

public transport would be really difficult. i think you should go for taxis a lot, and hope that they're nice drivers. i think they might have disabled taxi's.
