Amado

Spanish and Portuguese: from a medieval personal name, Amado, Latin Amatus ‘beloved (i.e. by God)’. Compare Italian Amato.

Jewish (Sephardic): adoption of the Spanish family name.

Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4

But - That doesn't mean your dad is Spanish, Portugese or Jewish, just that his surname originated there.

Most slaves in the USA took English-sounding surnames when they were freed in 1860's. That doesn't mean their ancestors dwelt in Puggsly-on-the-Thames before they came to the USA.

If a male Norwegian marries a Chinese lady (Cherokee lady, Nigerian lady) and has a son, and that son marries a woman of his mother's race, Their son could be named "Olaf Olafson" but be 3/4th Chinese. (Cherokee or Nigerian.)

So - surnames help but they are not a sure guide to heritage.

Ask your parents about their grandparents; ask what they did when they were growing up.

Hi Bonita BrownMa, the name Amado is actually of Spanish origin is a male last name meaning beloved. It's Latin derivative is Amatus-beloved and the Italian derivative is Amadio-god's beloved. And so with the Spanish origin, the Name Amado spans across the Spanish colonies and influence. So we have names like,Brazilian writer Jerge Amado. The illegitimate son of Aleister Crowley-Amado Crowley.
However, you only get to complex method to find your origin if you drifted alone. In your case you mention that your mom and Dad are alive but you just didn't want to ask them. In fact,in most cases your parents would be very glad to know that you are interested in knowing who you are.You simply wanted to find out who you are so take the opportunity of your mom and dad,i believe they^ll be in best position to tell you something. We all have a temporary time on earth and if your mom and dad are gone you will have to input more on this .

Amado is italian, it's spanish, and mexican, why don't you want to ask your mom? I would, what is there to be ashamed of? I'd be proud of my ethnicity, you must be a pretty girl, your mom is your mom, not a stranger!! Your dad might have some Panamanian background or Cuban, that's all I can think of if he looks black, ask your dad all the questions you need to ask him, why not? I've never heard anyone say that before, he is your real father right? He must be, you will need to know this eventually for your children will ask you and you won't know, that would be sad.

The origin is from Spain.......I don't doubt that your father may have a Hispanic last name and be Black....
If your parents and their ancestors are from the Carribean or South and Central America theres a chance here too.that your Ancestors were among the people who were brought to those continents against their will many years ago .......
The history of Africa is really interesting .I suggest you study it..........

If you travel to Spain , you will notice that the people there are light skinned and have light eyes in some cases.....Theres the last name.....

During the 1400s when there was a lot of exploration of the world by the country of Spain , African and darker skinned people were captured for labor on ships and were located all over the globe......Yes these people were slaves.......and taken against their will.....the races intermingled (sexually ) and the children have been here fore generations ,along with others from the African continent..........

Of course your mom knows what it means..she is probably trying to shield you from ignorance and prejudice.......

Remember we all have worth .........you are trying to descover your ancestory is cool to say the least....

Tap into the "HUMAN G-NOME PROJECT " on the internet........For a fee the scientists who are studying this very same thng will tell you where your ancestors originated from .......This is a national geographic project that has turned up some interesting things..I'll let you be suprised................

remember Thomas Jefferson , 3rd Pres. of the USA ? He had a long timelove affair with a Black woman named Nancy Hanks for many years.......his ancestors ,both balck and white gather together every few years for a reunion....

No matter what ....you are a beautiful woman .... Be proud and curious too....

If you want to know definitively, rather than just for curiosity, Google" DNA and Ancestry". It will give you a long list of places you can send off to and they will send you a kit, with which you can scrape some cheek cells (painless), send it to them, and they'll tell you the area of the world your family line originated it (Africa, European, Asian, etc.) It will cost you $200-$500; you want to know that bad?

If so, and you want to know your more recent origins, (great-great- grandfather, say), you've got a lot more work to do. You've got to go into your mother & father's birthdays, birthplaces, find out (from census records, etc.) what their parent's were all about, then those parents (your great-grandparents), and on and on; It's time consuming and can get to be an addiction, and it may lead to a new hobby, but it's fascinating. For this kind of research, go to ancestry.com (and its related sites), register with them, and start looking. They can guide you through the early stages; they can possibly find out, from your parent's and their parent's names alone, enough to get you started. If you want to go down this road, you need a geneology program to keep track of all the people and where they were; I use Family Tree Maker. Here, you're talking $150 to get started, and the sky's the limit from there, depending on how far back you want to go. (I've traced my family back to the 1600's on 2 sides, to the 1750's on one side, but only to my grandfather on the final side.)

Good luck.

This name is from the region of Tuscany in Italy. Amado is a name for a person who derived their name for the Italian phrase che ama Dio, or ama Dio, which means one whom God loves.

Hispanic? African-American? Maybe got a dark colored gene from the father to match with your mother. So maybe you got the dark-colored skin from you dad and your looks from your mom I guess? But go ahead and ask your dad. Deep down inside Im sure he wants to tell you.

Im black and my last name is Irish. Somewhere in the genealogy im Irish I guess so are probably Afro-Hispanic American. Good luck finding out!!
