I have a Minolta Maxxum 500Si and lenses are not by Minolta.

I see noone truly answered your question. The last answer was close. You can only fit Minolta Maxxum mount lenses (minolta brand or not) on one of 3 cameras.

Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D
Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D
both discontinued as Sony bought all KM rights to camera industry

Sony Alpha A100 (with lens <$1000)

You need to understand the lenses may not have been made by Minolta, but they are specifically designed for the Minolta Mount -- which means that if you do not want to invest in more lenses -- then you need to transition to a Digital SLR with the SAME Minolta Mount you already have (which is tricky).

I'm a Nikonian myself, and I'm afraid I can't give you a definitive answer. I can tell you that the above answers are all bs though.
You might want to look into the Konica Minolta 5D, 7D, and the new Sony Alpha (Sony took over KM and kept the current KM lens mount.)
