I just started grad school and I have used the same backpack since high school, I kid you not. LL bean's backpacks are indestructible!!!

Jansport or Eastpack have been tested for endurance and fabric quality by good housekeeping and came out to be the best. They usually run 60-80. Good Luck!

I was in a Salvation Army store the other day and I saw many of these selling for about a tenth the price in the dept stores. Check it out. Thrift stores also carry these, I saw a leather one with wheels for about $30.

A sports store like Dick's or Sport's Authority. Expect to spend about the range you listed for a good one.

i found the coolest backpacks at army surplus stores and some really cool retro ones on ebay myself.
