My school begins on September 20th, and I have yet to receive my financial aid check (I should be getting a bit extra to cover my textbook expenses). I still need to buy all my books. Does anyone know when this check might arrive? Are there holds put on these sort of things?

The money is generally disbursed 10 days before the semester begins, but if you are a first-semester Freshman, they post-pone the disbursement of the loans for 30 days. This really sucks, but there's nothing you can do about it. If your campus has a school debit system (at mine, we have Purple Points) you can usually charge a couple hundred to your student bill, and use those to buy things til your money arrives.
