I was channel surfing, and I saw on the Spanish channel, a latino music band that is "dressed up" & supposed to be Natives. They did the stereotypical hand over mouth whoo whoo warcry, I was totally astonished. Is this the "culture" that wants us true Native Americans to believe they respect us? Is this the manner in which they show their respect for American Natives? And you wonder why I am so against any criminal trespassers from mexico in MY country! Do mexicans really think that Natives dress like those fools? Whats the deal? I am very angry. My culture has been disrespected once again.

Actually some native americans in mexico do dress like that and that group is one of the most favmous "banda" group in Mexico. And if you want to talk about disrespect have you looked back at some of the old tv shows that use to be shown here in the U.S and how native americans were portrayed there? And how many latino's are portrayed on American tv shows.

Come on, you lost me on this one.

For a strong Indian warrior that you seem to emulate, you sure don't show thick skin! I doubt if it was parody, as there are indigenous groups in Mexico; they are called "matachines'' and I saw a group of these dancers at the University of Arizona, during a cultural event. They would be indigenous to the early Aztecs or Mayas. If a musical group decided to use their look, why is that an insult; should females be insulted with KISS, the rock band?

If it was parody, big deal! Sqwirl is right, comic relief uses all forums available. Lighten up. What do you think Jay Leno is about?

Mr. Renegade, Daddy says that illegal Mexicans have no culture and want to take a piece of everyone elses. Daddy says that illegal Mexicans grow their hair long and dress respectfully and act Native American in hopes of grabbing a bit of a TRUE Natives brightness, but they fail because illegal Mexicans open there mouth or pee on the side of a wall and give there lying, cheating scheme away. Daddy says that even though Native Americans are not white like us, they are the proudest and most honorable men ever. Daddy says he likes the casinos too.

Tell me about it! I'll go you one further though. I went to my dad's work and there was this Mexican guy there. He was talking Spanish and saying how he couldn't wait to have enough money to retire on. He was saying how all the White people were stupid. I told him I spoke Spanish and felt he shouldn't talk like that. In our conversation, I mentioned that my family is Indian. He asks, "Feathers or dots?". Then proceeds with the 'whoo whoo' and telling me it's ok, coz later we'll all 'smoke um peace pipe'. I complained to his (and my dad's) boss about his racial slurs. I even mentioned that he was talking about specific people and races in Spanish on the job. His boss tells me, "Give him a break. He's new to the country and doesn't understand." My foot up his butt might have helped him with that....... but I was too disgusted to hang around.

And for those saying that Natives dress like that in Mexico
1. you are stereotyping as badly as they are (and yes, as badly as America did)
2. NO Native goes around in war paint "whoo whoo"ing their fool head off!
3. disrespecting their own Natives (their own truly undervalued Natives to the point of being worse off than Mexicans as far as education, income, and legal status is concerned) is terrible! It doesn't make it right just coz there are Natives in Mexico too. It makes it worse!

Although I am no fan of this music that you are describing,I will ask you this one question. Has it ever occured to you that there are thousands of Native American tribes in Latin America ? These natives are discriminated against every day in their own countries. How the hell are they disrespecting you if it is their culture ?

I haven't seen it either, but I can imagine that it was offensive. I am not Native American, but I am so sad that the culture is so hard to come by these days. I am very fascinated with Native Indian cultures around the world. Too bad they have been decimated.

Actually I find it a shame because most Mexicans and South Americans are part Native American. You would think that they would care to know about all the cultures that made them what they are today.

That was probably the group called Banda Cuisillos. They are actually a class of Indians from Mexico.

My husband told me to tell you that they too get drunk and sleep under the bridges just like the ones here!!!

Exactly my point...they come here not respecting one iota of anything, even the homes that they "own" or "rent". You can see their lack of respect just by walking by one of their dwellings. I am in totally agreement with you. They **** on everyone and want the most access to everything. I would much rather see Native Americans getting what they deserve then seeing Mexicans/Latinos getting what they THINK they deserve.

They were making fun of our heritage. Mexicans and blacks do such things yet cry raciest if some one mistakenly says something about them. Thus in reality making them more racist than those they are claiming to be racist. If they want to be treated equal why do they not treat others as equal? Because in fact they are highly racist and try to hide it by claiming others to be racist.
