Hold him up and look at his nails. You can see the vein. Do not trim up to the vein but a little lower. Its easy with nail clippers. You Can get sandpaper to put on the perch. Ask at a pet store.

if i told u this u may not believe me buts it true,
my parents used to make homemade wine
when we let the budgie ot the cage to fly about, it used to come onto the table and sit on the glasses and drink the wine
it would get so drunk we could clip its claws,
but when it went back into its cage he would hang upside down,
we had an alcholic budgie OMG
it needed rehab hahahah

If you have never been shown the proper way to do this it is best to take it to an avian vet. The vet can show you how to do it and you could do it the next time. Make sure it is a vet who is experienced with pet birds!

If yo know how to clip it's wigns you'll probly be fine..
By some bird toenail cliiopers(They'll be at petsmart or Petco) and clip the ends off(If your bird struddgles or screams, your cutting it's vain...
Cutting into it's vein will make the bird bledd, so that why it's safer to take it to the vey, because if a bird looses soem blood, it will die.

nail clippers is ok .but you must cut under the blood vessel you can see were it starts when you hold the claw between your fore finger and thumb.if you cut above the vessel your bird will die it will bleed and you cant stop it.if not sure go to vets.

They make clippers for this, I found regular fingernail clippers work cutting below the pink area. Good luck.

Don't put the sandpaper on all the perches. It can hurt their feet. Allow places not covered by the sand paper.
