a good company specially shipyard etc,

There are a few 4year welding engineering programs scattered across the USA. One step is to complete the welding engineering program, and maybe go with an internship/coop along the way to help increase your job prospects. From there, you should be well-equipped to venture out into the industrial sector and begin your career in the welding engineering profession. Good luck.

My alma mater, The Ohio State University, happens to have a pretty darn good welding engineering department.

Good welders are in strong demand, especially if you have no problem with heights!

Take a local welding course first and make sure you like it/can get good enough at it to meet the demands of the profession. You can buy your own gas-welding gear very inexpensively, and even arc-welding gear is not outrageous.

I only know of one welding engineering program. Check out Letourneau Universty. It is in Longview Texas.
