Well I've been trying to get more blue and purple into my diet by eating blueberries but I've found fresh blueberries to be more expensive than frozen blueberries. I've heard that frozen blueberries are just as good as fresh blueberries because they are initially frozen while they are still fresh. So last week I tried thawing out a 1/2 cup of blueberries to add to my cereal in the morning. I suppose it was to be expected but the thawed blueberries naturally did not have the same integrity as fresh blueberries. They were soggy and the juice was oozing out of them. They were still good to taste however.

There are over 30 varieties of blueberries, so it's not simply how ripe a blueberry is that determines its flavor and sweetness. Most likely, the type of blueberry that you buy fresh is different from the one that you buy frozen.
