being IN the air force, i can tell you that it's awesome. the pay and benefits are the same no matter what branch you're in, so... moot point. at the same time, the air force offers better average housing, higher tech training, better deployment conditions (under the AEF cycle plan, which none of the other branches has proven competant enough to implement yet).
as far as decisive power, the air force is the major player of all the forces today, with the capability of causing more damage than all the other branches combined. with less personnel and better safetry ratings. aerospace dominance is the key to warfighting in the 21st century. imagine where iraq would have gone if Iraq had complete dominance of the sky? we'd just have 250K dead soldiers. so if anyone tells you the air force is not legitimate because they're inneffective, you can tell them to go kiss my *** and explain why the army begs/pleads/whines like five year olds every time the air force even remotely considers retiring the A-10

I love it. The benifits are great, the people I work with are fun and the life is fun. You work hard depending on what you do for a job. I worked 10-13 hrs/day for 6 day work weeks for the past 3 weeks, on the flightline. But you can get a desk job, or something inside a building that will be a regular 8hr work day. You'll love it. Ask your recuriter about the different jobs. If you've got more questions feel free to ask.
good luck

First off dont listen to the guy above me because he dont know what he is talking about. He got some things right but I have been in 2 branches and can tell you the AF has the best technical training out of any branch because they have more high tech equipment.
The AF aint to bad. I was in it for over 4 years when I crossed over to the Army.
It really all depends on your job. I worked 12 hour shifts so I could never really get into the class room but took all my school online and am close to getting my degree in Criminal Justice Computer Science and never paid a penny. The AF paid for ALL of it.
In my opion the AF is just like having a high tech civilian job but you wear BDUs.
If you want you can check out
www.afforums.com
and the people on the site, including myself, should be able to answer any specific questions you might have.

The airforce are civilians who wear a military uniform.
The benifts aren't as good as other branches, the Army has the most benifits out of all of them.
Also, on the military side everyone looks down upon eachother. The army looks down on the marines for being bullet catchers with bad tactics and the marines look down on the army for not being HOORAH enough.
Everyone looks down on the Navy and Airforce, but moreso the Airforce because all the other branches at least give respect to the Navy for having the best training available.
Just something to think about.
----------------------------
Edit: Nobody has yet to say any benifit that the AF has better benfits. "Practically Free School" you say? I MAKE $1500/mo to go to school for the Army National Guard.

As being in the Air Force, I love it! You get anything you want! School is practically free!! CLEPT test are free also... I second the comment about the livig conditions. I'm in Korea now and it's nothing to complain about! There are Army and Marines on this base and they love it! They prefer it to their previous state side base. We are all like, "WHAT?!" but hey... I don't regret it! There isn't a way to lose with the Air Force! And BDU's are sooo nice... Cumphy

The AF isn't a branch of the military, it's a corporation that kills people; true. I have no idea what Farsh is talking about. The AF has the best benefits of all the branches. I have been in the AF fro 6 years now and have NEVER heard anyone disagree with that. It is true that the other services look down on us but that is because they are jealous of our benefits. Hardly nobody crosses over from the AF to the Army. But I know tons of prior army in the AF. We are the best trained and best equiped. That why AF cops (Security Forces) are taking over the Iraqi prisons from the army.
