We can never be saved because of what we do; we can only be saved because of what Jesus Christ has already done for us. Let me explain.
Our greatest problem can be put in one word: sin. Sin cuts us off from God, and sin also keeps us out of heaven. But how can we get rid of our sins? We can't erase them or cause them to disappear by ourselves; we don't have the power. The only way we can get rid of our sins is for someone to come along and take them away for us.
And that is exactly what Jesus Christ did for us. We are weighed down by the burden of our sins—but Jesus took that burden upon Himself when He died on the cross for us. To put it another way, He took the punishment we deserve when He went to the cross in our place. The Bible says, "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God" (1 Peter 3:18).
What must you do? Simply believe that Christ has taken away your sins, and then receive Him into your heart and life. The Bible's promise is for you: "To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12). Become God's child today by asking Christ to come into your life.

Alot of people take being a christian for a joke. When you become saved and receive Jesus as you lord and savior you do become a Christian. But as a christian you are to live christ like. Its alot of us who say we are Christ-ians but we are still living as the world live. Being a christian means to walk with love and not hate, speaking and believing gods word, having a relationship with god, living by his commandments. Now I'm not saying that you have to be perfect because the bible says all have sinned and fell short of his glory but that doesn't give a person the right to just go and do everything we want because our god forgives us for our sins. Its only because of his grace and mercy that alot of us christian are still here because he saying these are my children i know they love me and know what i said they were going to do and be before they were even in their mothers womb i cant let nothing happen to them because i love them so much. So its more to it than just being baptized and attending a church to be a christian you have to be transformed and walk the walk god has desired you to walk.

Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Confess your sins and repent. You can talk to Him directly. Get baptized.
Find yourself a church home, and make it stronger with your service. I personally attend regularly nono-denominational Christians church, where the Bible is the center of teaching and they are connecting people to a life changing relationship with God.
Paul is telling more about how to become a Christian. James is going more to details about what to do when you become Christian. The Bible is God's life manual for us. Get to know His word to us, His love letters. Get hookep up with some good followers of Jesus Christ, they can help you to understand things.
Feel free to e-mail me.

Being a Christian involves knowing that Jesus Christ died for your sins. You have to ask Jesus to come into you heart. The bible says you should mingle with other believers, so joining a church or bible study group may be a good option for you. Just pray about it and God will show you the right direction.

Repent of your sins, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ,be filled with the Holy Ghost,and confess to others that you have recieved God into your heart. I'm not a christian,but I use to be. I just let things get in my way. Just read your Bible and pray to Jesus,ask him to lead you to the answers that you need, He will!
I wish you the best,you seem very humble,thats all God needs,...an humble heart!!! Pray for me when you pray!

Christians are Disciples of Messiah and all of His Disciples are followers of His Teachings. Peruse these links ponderously to know how to be a sheep of The Master's Flock:

Brent E,
If you do not own a Bible, biblegateway.com is good to read it from. You need a teacher, usually a pastor, who has been gifted by God to teach the scriptures. That's all background though.
A Christian is a Christian because he/she believe's that he/she is a sinner, and needs God's grace. Grace means unmerited favor. That means you don't deserve the awaiting gift that God has for you, but He will give it to you anyway.
Our text comes from the Bible first. So let me show you a verse:
Romans 1:5
I received God's grace because of what Jesus did so that I could bring glory to him.
That's in line to what I have been telling you. It's not earned, it's what Jesus did that earned it.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
We all have sinned, and fallen short of His standard of perfection. But we are justified in His eyes through the work of Jesus.
Look up "propitiation." That's what Jesus was able to accomplish through no mistake.
So what makes me different to those who merely say, " I beleive in God."?
It's faith. But what definition of faith am I using? ( Remember to always look up words, even if you think that you understand them.)
Faith, as I have learned it, is: An action, based upon belief, sustained by confidence.
So it is not just simply believing, there's action involved.
Example:
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
The action, belief, and confidence are within that verse. True faith, and that's what makes you saved. You have to trust God. It's all about Jesus, you have to trust Jesus.

It's easy! You just accept Jesus into your heart as your personal savior. I go to a Methodist church and I was baptized the same day I accepted Him into my life. Going to church does not make you a Christian, but a strong belief in God does! Welcome to the world of purpose, it's a wonderful place to be. God Bless.
