no. Usually people already know a "shower" means bring gifts.

I'm throwing a bridal shower for my sister next week. I did not indicate on the card to bring a gift. I would hope that people would have the common sense to do just that. But hey, if you are inviting people who don't know any better...than maybe you should. Those who show up without a gift would probably be embarrased!

If you place bring a gift on your bridal shower cards its RUDE!! and sounds DESPERATE!!! Most people will bring something for the bride alot of it is the fun clothing for the wedding night. If they don't bring a gift its for a good reason. Most of the time its financial problems or they just didnt' know what to get you. You can place at the bottom that the bride and groom are registered at target, khols, and so on. That will give the guests some place to look for something that the bride and groom will want.

People know to bring a gift. You should register at a Target or JCpenny to help your guests know what you are interested in getting.
Pick things you need over things you want. Household items such as towels or flatware or power tools will be good. Don't treat your shower like a birthday party or christmas, remember it's about getting the things you don't have that you need. If this is your second marriage...don't make people buy you anything. They don't have all this time and money to spend on someone who gets married every 5 years.

'Showering' the bride with gifts is the purpose of a bridal shower, so it's really not necessary to spell it out. Usually you just list the place or places the bride is registered at and people get the idea.

No, that would be in very bad taste. However, you can have a theme to the shower such as a kitchen shower and everyone would know to bring something for the kitchen. But you can't just say "bring gifts".

I would not, I would put: if bringing a gift these are the type of things we need. Then list the types of things you are looking for. Always list cash!!! I know of a place to get great kitchen products.

That would be sooooo rude! People know that gifts are taken to showers; that's the main purpose of a shower. But to ask for gifts....NO! That would be very offensive to most people.
If you know the bride-to-be needs mostly linens or kitchen items, you might word the invitation:
Kitchen shower for ......
or....Linen shower for ......
