when going on a run/walk 4 miles, is it better to do: .5 mile warm up, 2.5 mile run, 1 mile cool down, or to break it up like: .5 mi. warmup, 1 mile run, .5 mi walk, .5 mile run, .25 mi walk, .25 mile walk etc. I would be spending the exact same amounts of time walking and running in both. Does this make any difference whatsoever?

better in terms of what? for loosing weight? run the whole time, which keeps your heart rate up and you are working the most in the 4 miles so you loose the most weight.

firstly, you must start with a 0.5 mile warm up, then 1 mile easy running, 1 mile as fast as possible running, then another 1 mile easy running and finally 0.5mile walk, like the one in the warm up. This way the muscles are not overused.
