If you look at the stats on personality profiles you will see that all atheist have a common personal characteristic its called vanity they believe they are in control and have complete freedom without fear of persecution, that's why they usually will become defensive when approached by a religious person right away, they also refuse to accept that some greater power might not like thier actions and make them pay a price for theire disobedience so ther conscience stays clear. look at the men in history that. made every atheist free to be atheist, they were all men of god. i was an atheist until i was diagnosed terminal with liver disease and heart failure let me tell you there are no atheist in a bomb shelter during the bombing. some of the greatest minds in history were Christians or religious in some way. To believe atheist are a greater being than the next person because of personal belief only makes an atheist shallow and blind to things everyone else can see!

Some are more intelligent, some aren't. The ones that feel the need to claim they are, are actually afraid that low intelligence means weakness. And to those people, theists are weak. So they don't want to be like the theists and have a "need" for religion or guidance. However, if they actually stopped and thought about it, many of them follow science; which, by the way, took 70 years to determine that Pluto was not a planet. Man they are accurate aren't they?

I do, and yes it is stereotyping, and occasionally I have to apologize because I'll run across an intelligent theist.

However, it has been my experience that everyone (literally, 100% ) that I've come across that disbelieves evolution can't actually articulate what the theory says... or the major lines of evidence for it... or even just the basic premise behind it. They'll blab about "random chance" and the "2nd law of thermodynamics" and then congratulate themselves for being so scientifically-minded. Most don't even know how many laws thermodynamics has! (It's 3, btw... to save you the google trip...)

So if I stereotype someone who disbelieves evolution as being ignorant of the theory and supporting facts, it's only because I have yet to meet someone who fully understands it and still disbelieves. Is that stereotyping, or just being inductive with the evidence at hand?

(And again, my apologies to anyone reading this if you happen to be a disbelieving theist with a biology degree or something -- I just have yet to experience that).

The same way that some atheists would claim (some not all) Theists take the moral high ground all the time. Everyone wants to be right, but when they refuse to find a middle ground to agree on both sides end up looking like jerks.

it's the same with all people...i mean you can find every religion(believe me,atheism is a religion)that has their share of know-it-alls.people who don't believe in God(and i do)have a hard time with the idea that someone who believes in something they think can't exist can't be as smart as they.for example,do you think that you are smarter than all atheist?or theist?your statement would suggest you do.
people can be intelligent whether or not they believe in a Diety

Theists believe, Atheists choose not to believe

There are Agnostics, deists, humanists.....

Belief or non-belief comes in a variety of packaging

My opinion?
Atheists and agnostics often times are simply defending their right to think "outside the (religious)box" when their views are "ridiculed" by believers...

Nota Bene: "Believers" is NOT a synonym for "Christian"
Christianity is only one belief system...

Don't prejudge non-believers if you hold that your belief system is the only "true" "real" one....that is just as biased as thinking atheists and agnostics are somehow "wrong"

not necessarily more intelligent, but more willing to accept reality - which seems more intelligent, now that i think about it...

truly, i've had christians tell me neanderthals are mathusala, dinos lived with humans, there are no contradictions in the bible, nothing has ever been mistranslated, god will provide, etc etc etc

after hearing this long enough, one begins to think a lotof theists aren't too bright.

Because there is a tendency for people who think to be more intelligent than people who refuse to think. My sister believes it is a sin to question her naive beliefs, so she has made herself lose any ability to think that she might have had if she hadn't chosen to amputate her brain, in effect. No one could stop me from thinking and questioning beliefs, even when I was quite young. Some theists are intelligent, but they could be more so if they allowed themselves to be.

this is a good example of a word which is alway s used on one form as i never seen someone use the word theists before;i got bewildered by your futhrer details but i hazard a guess that atheists feel superior as they think they have reasoned it out by themselves

Because many Atheists consider them to be illogical hypocrites. But as an atheist, I know intelligent christians, so that is a stereotype.
