should i buy a newer version or is the office 97 basically the same.

There is not much difference between office 97, 2000 and XP so save your money.

You can still use office 97, but there are major changes and features in office 2003. I would recommend purchasing the latest version because eventually the old versions will not be supported and any documents/spreadsheets in the earlier version will not be accessible for other people because they will most likely have a newer version than you. It depends on your budget so need to decide. Also, see if anyone else you know that may have a copy of the new version and if you can get a copy for your usage.

If your able to install office 97, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Although you may find yourself running into problems with opening documents on the net or from attachments, then you may want to update to one of the newer office versions.

No dude dont buy the newer verion if you wanna better office then try to buy office 2003 professional OEM pack from the same dealer for a good price
normally OEM software is avaible with new pcs but since your laptop is new you must try buying

Unless there is anything you are not able to perform or accomplish with 97 stay with it you wouldn't gain anything or benefit from a newer version.. Just waste your money.

wait for the office2007 that comes out on october,, the detail u could buy and education version and it is cheap 150.00 or less. I recommend u to change..
