let the controversial immigrant debate begin

The united states has a long history of people from Mexico crossing the border. it started back in 1844 when Texas was signed in as a state, and we then got into a war with Mexico. After we won the war we got California, nevada, arizona and New Mexico. That meant that millions of Mexicans became Americans quickly. Since then there has been trade and labor crossing the border. Only when the economy in the US gets worse, does it ever come into question. Many people enjoy the fruits of the labor of undocumented immigrants. Their houses are built, their crops are picked, and their babies are cared for by immigrants. many illegals use fake social security cards to gain employment, and will never get to enjoy the retirement benifits. The money deducted from their wages goes into the Social Security suspense fund, and adds billions of dollars a year to Social Security, helping to keep it afloat. I have yet to see any facts that document that illegal immigration is bad for the country, but there are many emotional arguments that don't hold water. But if you want to get emotional, imagine moving from your home to another country where you didnt know the language very well, and had to get a job doing work that was well below your talent level. But you did it in order to provide a better life for your family. That's the American dream.

You're joining a debate in progress already, and the consensus so far is that they need to go home. Not a full majority, but if u hang out here long enough, I think you'll see it's 70-80% of the posts...there's some arguments pro-illegal, but a lot of em don't stand up to close scrutiny. About the only real case you can make for admitting people to our country illegally is that they're financial hard-luck cases, a humanitarian thing. But, there's other ways to give humanitarian aid than by disregarding our laws.

I think in view of 9-11 we should not tolerate illegals coming over the border. Anyone who cares enough about the laws in this country will go about getting here the legal way! Our country is too vulnerable to just anyone who wants to run over the border and blow our innocent civilian populations up! We have an obligation to protect our citizens first! We should have no problems deporting illegals! I don't care where they are from! Get the lawbreakers out! They are costing us our safety and too many tax dollars!

I don't blame people for wanting a better life for them and their families. This does not mean I accept them as citizens either there just a fact of life. I do blame companies that hire them which created the problem in the first place because these people are nothing but expoloiters of a group of people looking for a better life and they are the scum.

they have always been here and the views pushed out through propaganda in the media are nazi-like ... theres no need for the hatred towards a group of people ... it could be settled with the ones already here without rounding them up or repressing them and we could deal with our boarder im sure to prevent increasing numbers .... the ones that are here already arnt hurting anybody ... if they do a violent criminal act then deport them ... but to deport them all is a hitler idea and for another thing plan on your food prices doubling probably.

Their excess numbers are causing our schools and services to fail our own people. They shouldn't be here. There are reasons we have limits on immigration of poor people who can't pay their expense in services like education. We can feel compassion for them, but not at the expense of our own people. We can't carry the poor of the world. Their own governments are responsible for them.

When it comes down to it, they do fill the low-wage jobs, which no one would take otherwise. They can send money home to their families to try to help get them out of poverty.

as an American and a Texan. I think we need to shut the borders down and deport every damn one of them. use all bus lines, all means available to to these people who have no respect for the law. they are disease carriers and criminals. not to mention a liability to the American public.
