Hey, badferret, who told you that!? LOL....
anyways, it doesn't say in the bible, we can not drink. It says we should not become drunkards. Basically, its a personal choice. AND, i am asking the best way to COOK with it, not to go on a binge. ;)

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you should use a wine (or beer) that you would be willing to drink. They make cooking wines but they are altered with salt and other things added and really are not ideal for use in your recipes.
There are many recipes with wine or beer in them....some of my favorites are bratwurst and onions cooked in beer, a little chianti or other red wine added to a tomato sauce and even though it is not technically COOKING -- a couple of strawberries in a glass of champagne is tasty and can be romantic!
I would guess that the same sort of general guidelines for drinking wine with a meal -- i.e. matching the type of wine to the type of food -- would apply to cooking for the most part. This would GENERALLY mean white wine with chicken, fish and pork and red wines with beef, lamb, venison etc. Though I would look at some of the recipes on the web sites that someone else had provided.
Good luck and salute!
Alley
P.S. I always liked the advice of Justin Wilson, the old Cajun chef -- he would say his recipe called for a cup and a half of wine --- and then he would add 1/2 cup to the pot and then drink the rest! :)

Buy some of those Plastic baking bags. Use wine for the best tasting method for the foods. You can bake just about anything in those bags including a turkey and the flavor is just marvelous when adding wine instead of water for the liquid.
NOTE: Don't use that cooking wine that you can purchase at the grocery store, buy regular wine at a liquor store.
I only use beer when making a batter such for such as fish or chicken.

Cook some boneless/skinless chicken breast in a large skillet with salt, pepper, and Madera wine, keep adding wine & water to keep the chicken moist. Oh, and no oil!!! Add any other seasonings you enjoy...yummy! Outside willturn a nice golden brown, just make sure you cook it long enough so it's not still pink in the center...

I like to make DRUNK CHICKEN! It is very simple. Just take a whole chicken and salt and pepper it inside and out. Open a can of your favorite beer, it should be at room temperature, and stand the chicken on the beer can. Bake in the over or on the grill till juices run clear. The beer gives it a great flavor!

when ever i make bratwurst i make a beer bath for them, i cut up some bell peppers and onions, sautee them. When they are all caramilzed i add up top to 24 oz beer ( killians, shiner bock, budweiser, etc.) to the mixture w/ 2 cups of water, let it reduce down and thow the brats in when they are fully cooked from the grill, then i let them bathe for 15 to 20 minutes so they absorb all the flavor of the beer. so there is one suggestion on how you can use beer/ wine for cooking

Boil shrimp in beer
Anything cooked with wine is better for the wine that's in it.
Bon Appetite!

You should add it to the food before you start cooking. It's best to let it set a few hours befor you cook. What ever you do make sure you have enough for self befor it's all cooked up.
