My favorite breed is the Jack Russell Terrier, luv em'!
There is no real proof that mutts are healthier than purebreds. I can't understand where people drag such things up from. I've heard of many mutts with hip displasia and patellar luxations(both geneticly enherited diseases) along with a long list of other inherited problems. There REALLY isn't any proof that they have better temperments, a dogs' personality is individual and often formed by it's early stages of life. I love mutts but there truely isn't any proof behind this claim.
Any dog can get sick, any dog can inherit a disease or bad traits, no dog is better than another.
I'm also dead against designer dogs like cockapoos and labradoodles. All they are is a fad that pushes more dogs into the already overcrowded animal shelters. They aren't a pure bred, only overpriced mutts. Adopt a crossbreed from the shelter(the exact same thing) instead:)

The great unanswerable question. No one can answer that for you since each breed appeals to different people for different reasons.
For good pictures, you can link to the various breed clubs through akc.org. There are other good websites too. However my favorite place to look is a book called The New Encyclopedia of the Dog by Bruce Fogel.

I call it my shopping list. In additon to really good pictures, it has info about the breed that can help in making your decision.

I like mutts the best! Full breed dogs seem to have health or behavior problems. Not all, but many! A mutt has diversified DNA and generally make great pets! Not that there aren't great Jack Russes, Beagles, German Shepard's, and so on.
Grayhounds have a really nice personality!
Go rescue a mutt!

An adopted greyhound racing dog. They are so grateful for a loving home and make the most loving and wonderful pets. You might have to teach them to climb steps and a few other things, but don't let those big brown eyes fool you.......they are smart.

In North America I'd say Labrador or Chesapeake; in the UK Irish setter, Springer spaniel, Scottish terrier or Jack Russell. Can't decide!

Over the decades dogs have been bred for all manor of jobs and activities. I prefer the larger breeds for their intelligence, friendship and protective qualities. Poodles should be called cats.

I have a Labradoodle and she's great. She has the temperament and body of a Lab and the cute curly hair of a poodle. Another great attribute is that she doesn't shed.
